Peaceful Wyoming
The Rough Guide describes Wyoming best when they say, "Pronghorn antelope all but outnumber people in wide-open Wyoming, the ninth largest but least populous state in the Union". Only 460,000 Wyomians reside in this beautiful state. We hope that it stays this way.
We first visited Wyoming when we were in Victor, Idaho with our friends, Jen and John. They took us over the border and into Jackson Hole where we were able to get an up close and personal view of the Grand Tetons (above right).
We entered a much different Wyoming the second time as we made our way to South Dakota. This Wyoming was flat, agricultural and charming.
It was just us and the trains out there.
Oh yes, and we forgot the American Bison (buffalo).
And the ranchers.
This is Devils Tower. Standing at 867 feet, this gigantic volcanic rock was formed more than 50 million years ago. Director Steven Spielberg made Devils Tower the landing spot for aliens from outer space in Close Encounters (for those of you too young to understand the joke above).
Have you ever seen Mt. Rushmore? Well, now we have, and so can you, follow us to South Dakota. |
