Tennessee is the home of good down home Country Music and Blues

It is also home to good old Rock and Roll

In 1939, a mansion was constructed in Memphis Tennessee.  Its owners named it Graceland.  In 1957, a twenty-two year old gentleman by the name of Elvis Aaron Presley purchased the home and 138 acres for 100,000 dollars.

Upon entering the grounds of Graceland, you can automatically tell that it is a special place.

Elvis Presley is the King of Rock and Roll.  He recorded over 90 records which made it to the top 100 charts.  His first gold record hit was Heartbreak Hotel.  He starred in many popular films in the 1960s and he continued to sell out concert halls until his untimely death at the age of 42.

He was also a very good man.  When he moved into Graceland, he brought his parents with him to share his good fortune.  He served his country in the Army after being drafted in 1958.  He also spent his life praising the gospel and giving much of his time and money to charity.

Walking through Elvis' home was a special experience, and we are not even Elvis fanatics.  Graceland has been left as it was when Elvis passed away and "left the building" in 1977.

The first room that you pass on the right is the living room and Elvis' music room.  Elvis liked all types of music, but his favorite was gospel.

Elvis also really enjoyed television.  Most of the rooms in Graceland have a television, with the exception of his TV room (right) which has several mounted into the wall.

Another very interesting room in Graceland is the Jungle Room (not shown here) which has green shag carpet on the floor and ceiling to really give it that jungly effect.

Elvis loved cars and motorcycles.  He owned many cars, and even gave many away to friends, family and strangers.  His favorite car was his pink Cadillac which he kept around.

Elvis even owned a few planes.  Hey, why not?  While in the service, Elvis met an officer's daughter named Priscilla.  Many years later, in 1967, they married and soon thereafter had a beautiful little girl that they named Lisa Marie.  Elvis adored his little girl so much so that he named his largest plane after her.

Elvis Aaron Presley passed away at Graceland on August 16, 1977 from heart failure.  He was buried in a nearby cemetery, but had to be moved to Graceland for security reasons.  Elvis is buried next to his mother and father.

After leaving Graceland, we began the final stretch for Atlanta.  We would be home that same evening.  We drove through Mississippi, which happens to be the birthplace of Elvis.

Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935.  He was actually a twin;  however, his twin brother, Jessie, died at birth.  Elvis grew up an only child.  He lived with his parents in this modest shotgun house, which was built by his father, during much of his childhood, until they moved to Memphis.

Alabama would be the last state we would drive through before reaching...

And so that is it.  After 18 months of Round the World travel, we are back in Atlanta.

How do we feel?  What we will we do?  Where we live?  Come back soon and we will let you know what it is like to be home again.
