California: Land of Sun, Fun and Death ValleyCalifornia is a beautiful state with so much to offer. Our small section on Death Valley does not even begin to scratch the surface of California's wonderful culture and beauty. However, Death Valley, which lies deep in the Mojave Desert is a fascinating place which should not be missed.
Death Valley is the hottest place on earth. A party of white settlers who had to cross through here in 1849 gave this hot, arid place its name after they lived to tell about their struggles through the valley without food or water.

Death Valley is so much more than just dry desert. The valley is surrounded by a maize of colorful mountains. This one has been given a name: Artist's Palette, because of the beautiful tones of blues, reds, greens, coppers and oranges.
The badwater is a pool of water that contains far more salt than the sea which was here millions of years ago. It is here that you can find the lowest point of the western hemisphere, 282 feet below sea level. We watched the sun set over the badwater and then began our trip back home into Nevada and back to Vegas baby.
And now it is time to turn the Integra around and head home. We begin our return journey back in the underrated state of Utah--this time to Zion and Moab. |
