Once you left the main tourist drag of Mijas, the town quieted and the real beauty emerged. White houses everywhere and narrow and hidden lanes led to dead ends and beautiful views in equal measure.
Flowers everywhere was also a trademark of Mijas. The citizens there take great pride in the appearance of their simple and humble homes.
One evening in Marbella, we made the short journey to nearby Malaga and its port. We were there to meet the Royal Clipper, the largest sailing ship in the world we were told. Our friends, Jan and Dave, who we first met in Norway on another ship (as we cruised up Norway's western coast), were sailing aboard the ship from the French resort town of Cannes. Here we wait for the arrival of the Royal Clipper.
Tessa and Emily enjoy the view of the breathtaking mountains and olive tree groves which are so prevalent in southern Spain.
Continue through Spain with us as we travel north to Madrid with a stop in La Mancha, home of Don Quixote. |
