Lofoton Islands 2
Up

The sleepy fishing village of Å:

After two relaxing days in Stamsund, we took a very scenic bus ride to the preserved fishing village of Å (pronounced "Oh") with our travel friends that we met on the Coastal Steamer:  Ennio (our buddy from Sicily with Mob ties), and Yoni, Erez and Yuval who are from Israel.

We woke up to a beautiful and sunny morning.  Not wanting to waste a second of good weather, we jumped out of bed and went exploring.

A view of Å from the road above.  Large mountains surround Å  on the northern border, while she is exposed to the open sea from the south.

The inner harbor is lined with the distinctive rorbu, all painted in their characteristic red; paint which historically was made from cod fish oil.

Here's our buddies from Israel: Yoni, Yuval, and Erez.  We had a great time traveling around with these guys who brought a refreshing youthfulness to this portion of our journey.  We could not say it then, Erez, but we hope you got to go whale watching.

Here we are in Å at the southern tip, enjoying the splendid views of the sea and the mountains.  Norway gets our vote for some of the most spectacular physical beauty in all the world.
