Spanish School Festivities:

Every Friday night the school plans a party for the students to get together and celebrate the graduation of those students who are leaving.  There is a different theme each week.  The theme for our graduation party was a costume party and meringue dance contest.  Here is a group of festive students sporting their costumes.  Can you find us?

Here is Rich and our friend Renato.  Rich has dressed as a scary clown.  ¡Tengo Miedo!  (I am scared)

There are several things that Rich did while we were in Guatemala that he swore that he would never do.  One of those things was dance lessons.  We enjoyed a couple of private meringue dance lessons with our fellow classmates Melanie (Germany) and Ricardo (Canada).  Here we are Friday night before our party taking one last lesson together with our American friend, Jodi.  who had come into town during the end of our stay.  You will see more of Jodi in our upcoming travels around Guatemala.  Our dance instructor is the beautiful young women in the green shirt.

While we did learn a few turns, we did not feel good enough to participate in the dance contest Friday evening.  However, our classmates, Melanie and Ricardo did compete and they had a ball.  While they may not have won a prize, they were one of the more entertaining couples, especially when Ricardo gave Melanie such a spin that she went flying onto the floor.

Kelly learns a few dance moves from maestro Gabriel who is, by the way, a fine dancer.
