2 Go Pushkar Photos
Up

Following a fun stay in Jaipur, 4 Go India (Kelly, Rich, Paul and Mike) boarded a bus for a 3 hour bus ride to Ajmer.  Our final destination was Pushkar, roughly a one hour ride, by the local bus you see here, over a mountain pass.  This bus ride was about as local as you get, reminding Paul and Mike why they had previously hired private cars for transport through India.

Business as usual at the Pushkar bus stop.

Here we are, crammed into the very last row of the local bus to Pushkar.  It was actually quite the good time, notwithstanding Mike's contemplation of suicide during the journey (see the 2 Go Global Quote Board).

Our reward for the trying, but relatively brief, bus ride was the serene holy town of Pushkar.  We stayed at a great hotel on the banks of the holy lake, and enjoyed drinks and a beautiful sunset.

The lake is lined with ghats (steps which lead to the lakes edge).  Each day, the ghats would be crowded with the devout and pilgrims alike who would bathe in the lake's holy water.

A cow makes his way down a rather perilous looking set of steep steps to the ghats of the lake.  We now know that, yes, cows can climb up and down steps with seemingly little problem.

A sadhu, or man on a spiritual quest.

A man and his wife making music on the streets.  She had an absolutely enchanting voice.

Joking around at the fortress like doors of our hotel, the Pushkar Palace.

Continue with us as we visit the desert city of Bikaner and see the desert by camel.
