Our 2 day Camel Safari was the highlight of our time in Bikaner. It was great fun heading into the Thar Desert upon the back of a camel; not necessarily comfortable, but definitely fun. And by the way, nothing is wrong with your monitor; we gave Black and White photos a go--let us know what you think.
After breakfast at Vinod's house, we traveled by jeep to a small village on the edge of the desert where we prepared to head out. Here a villager checks out the preparation.
In this village the children were curious, cute and plentiful.
Each village often will have its own convention of dress. In this village, the women (as they do through much of India) covered their faces with a veil.
As we headed out of the village toward the desert with our camels, camel carts, and crew, the local children gave us a spirited send-off.
Kelly upon boarding her camel for the first time.
Throughout the desert, animals of all types can be seen, particularly since the killing of animals is considered sacrilege. Numerous were antelopes, one of which is seen here perched upon a sand dune.

Mike and Paul. Riding camels is tough work; definitely not terribly comfortable. When things got a little rough, as they invariably did after 2 hours or so of riding, we could retreat to the comfort of the camel cart (a wheeled cart pulled by a camel) which was piled high with comfortable blankets. Paul was the stalwart of the group, spending more time on his camel than any of us.
